“For the first time since my dad died, I was able to smile today” Abdul was in tears, but this time, they were tears of joy when I told him how authorities are finally taking action to improve govt schools in Maharashtra. I had called to check on Abdul and his family’s well-being, but instead, Abdul made the entire call about how we need to do more for kids in govt schools. I kept asking him, “How are you? How’s your mother?” And he kept shutting me down, saying, “Aap humari chinta chhodo. Aap aur school ghumo. Humein aur school theek karne hain.” Toh ab bhai ne bola hai karne ka, toh karne ka! :)
